Volkswagen is always keen on giving their beloved Beetle special treatment, from unique colors to special edition models. The Beetle is their first child, their longest running model, the bubbly bug that everyone knows. Going back to 1934, the development of the first Beetles was underway and ready to sell by 1938, only to have the factory converted for war materials and later destroyed as a result. By 1947, Beetles were being produced and sold to war troops for transportation. Since then, the Beetle has been facelifted, fine tuned, and painted to match the eras.
There have been many special edition Beetle models since the 1970s and VW shows no signs of stopping that tradition. Snapping back to the present day, there are currently two special edition models available for 2016: the Beetle Denim and Beetle Dune.
There has been a long craving for a certain color Beetle, and even if we hadn’t named this article or added the photo above, you could still probably guess the color. You know. Pink. There are photos all over Google of pink colored bugs, and you may have even seen one in person. Dealers have known it. We know it.

Volkswagen credits fans for its new Limited Edition Beetle. Dubbed the #PinkBeetle, VW hopes to start a revolution on social media and among Beetle owners.
The starting point? One woman’s quest to find a pink beetle:
“Brenda Hagar begged a Volkswagen dealer three years ago to find her a pink Beetle convertible or make her one. When he did, she bought it on the spot, sight unseen. She rerouted her flight home from a Mexico vacation to pick it up in Texas, driving all the way home to Oklahoma City in November with the top down to help make room for her and her husband’s diving gear. When she finally reached her hometown, she cruised in her new pink VW down Main Street, exactly five years to the day of being cancer free.” (Source: VW Newsroom)
“For Volkswagen, the idea of the #PinkBeetle has been years in the making… hatched… in the spring of 2014. Dealers from around the country gathered… to discuss what special models might be of interest.” (Source: VW Newsroom).
The concept model debuted at the New York Auto Show in 2015, and was marked to become a reality as a 2017 model car.

And so, the #PinkBeetle arrives at dealers in October, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness.
The #PinkBeetle will be offered in a coupe or convertible. It is a vibrant shade of Fresh Fuchsia Metallic over a Pink Club cloth (a match to the GTI plaid, but in pink) with a black and pink accented dash and steering wheel. The pink exterior will be balanced with black mirror caps, black running boards, and either 17″ Linas aluminum wheels or 18″ Twister wheels for the coupe and convertible, respectively.
In celebration of our #PinkBeetle and Breast Cancer Awareness month, we, Volkswagen of Naples, will be running a fun campaign to benefit a local charity and contribute to the #PinkBeetle revolution. For the entire month of October, we will be parking our #PinkBeetle all around various spots in Naples for people to view.
In addition, we encourage people to take a photo our #PinkBeetle when they see it: post it on Instagram with the hashtag #PinkBeetle and tag our page @vwofnaples. In response, we will re-post each photo we are tagged in and will be donating in support of breast cancer awareness (a specific place will be chosen soon!).
