Volkswagen of Naples shares family values: Volkswagen Passat named 2012 top family car

Kelley Blue Book’s KKB.com names the Volkswagen Passat “Top Family Car”. The Editors at the prestigious website single out Passat as the number one family-hauler, from a field of 10 cars

The 2012 Passat can add yet another accolade to its growing roster of awards: It has been named by Kelley Blue Book’s www.kbb.com as the number-one pick for its 10 Best Family Cars of 2012 list. Each year, the expert editors at kbb.com choose 10 vehicles that they feel address a wide selection of typical familial concerns, ranging from safety, comfort, child-friendliness and favorable consumer ratings to potential out-of-pocket costs during the car’s first five years of ownership.

The Passat—starting at $19,995, with class-leading rear-seat legroom and parent-friendly standard features like Bluetooth® technology and dual-zone climate control—represents a tremendous value for any modern family. And, with the option of a TDI® Clean Diesel engine that gets an EPA estimated 43 mpg on the highway and a range of up to 795 miles when equipped with a manual transmission, the Passat can also be an eco-conscious family-hauling machine.

In naming the Passat their number one pick, kbb.com editors said: “Crafted specifically for the American market—it’s even built in Chattanooga, Tennessee—the 2012 Volkswagen Passat is both larger and cheaper than the model it replaces. But the European driving dynamics and interior feel remain, making the new Passat a uniquely well-rounded family sedan and our best family car of 2012.”

“We’re flattered to have the Passat recognized as the best family car of 2012 by the editors at Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com, a company that is highly regarded by both the automotive industry and consumers,” said Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “Such acknowledgement further validates our efforts to make it the first affordable, midsize German-engineered car for the American family. And it’s built in America!”

Volkswagen of Naples Announces Passat Receives “Best of 2012” Top Honor from Cars.com!

TDI® Clean Diesel model, also available at Volkswagen of Naples, was recognized as “Eco-Friendly Car of the Year”.

Adding to a growing list of awards, the new-for-2012 Volkswagen Passat has earned additional praise from Cars.com for its outstanding value and long list of standard features. Named “Best of 2012,” the Passat captured the third annual award from the popular online automotive source. The Passat’s long list of standard features includes Bluetooth® technology, dual-zone automatic climate control, class-leading rear seat legroom, and Volkswagen’s Carefree Maintenance program for a starting MSRP of $19,995.

Prior to choosing the “Best of 2012” awards, editors at Cars.com tested more than 65 models released for 2012. Editors picked their top six before selecting the 2012 Passat as “Best of 2012.” The Passat ousted the Subaru Impreza, Range Rover Evoque, Hyundai Veloster, Hyundai Accent, and Audi A7.

In addition to the “Best of 2012” honor, Cars.com named the Passat TDI Clean Diesel model their “Eco-Friendly Car of the Year.” The clean diesel’s 2.0L four-cylinder engine produces 140 horsepower and an exceptional 236 pound-feet of torque. Boasting an industry-leading 795-mile range on a full tank, the Passat TDI manual has an EPA estimated 43 mpg on the highway. As the only affordable diesel in midsize sedan segment, the Passat delivers excellent performance while maintaining exceptional fuel economy.

“This recognition is an honor. Volkswagen set out to bring to market a sedan that appealed to the American consumer in the highly competitive midsize segment and the Passat is quickly earning a spot on the U.S. consumer’s shopping list due to its exceptional value, strong list of standard features, and German heritage,” said Brain Massoll, Managing Partner, Volkswagen of Naples, located in Naples, Florida. “Accolades such as this indicate that we’re succeeding.”

Volkswagen of Naples is proud to announce 2012 Motor Trend Car of The Year: Volkswagen Passat

The 2012 Passat, available at Volkswagen of Naples, located in Naples, FL., has Middle Class Action and a Supersized Yank Tank Delivers the Goods

If Car of the Year juries were seated like criminal trial juries, Volkswagen’s lawyers might have used up their peremptory challenges dismissing the lot of us. They’d claim we had been poisoned by the launch coverage of the company’s supersized Yank-tank B7-generation Passat. Harsh auto-show lighting made the car look like a freshened version of Chevy’s little-loved Impala; early punditry slammed the interior as drab, plain, and cheap-looking; and news that the moaning I-5 we loathe in the Golf-class cars would be the mainstream engine seemed like strike three.
Unlike GM and Ford, which are consolidating regional platforms and introducing world cars, Volkswagen’s larger new Passat will sell only in North America and China. The car and the strategy raise serious questions: Can an American-born-and-bred Passat be German enough to please the VW faithful? Can anything with a VW badge pry large numbers of people out of their Accords and Camrys? Can such conservative styling turn the heads of the legions on their way to Hyundai? Out on the test track, in the high-desert sunshine, three Passats spanning the range of powertrain and trim levels did their best to answer these questions, presenting evidence in each of our six criteria and gradually whittling away at our editorial preconceptions. Let’s read the court testimony.

ADVANCEMENT IN DESIGN
Granted, from 50 feet or in a two-dimensional photograph, the Passat engages the eye less than does the splashy “fluidic design” of the Hyundai Sonata, but closer inspection reveals exquisite detailing. Our own expert witness, Tom Gale, gets the ball rolling: “The package provides good accommodation, and like the Audi [A6], what is remarkable is the restraint shown with the handling of the design. Clean, beautiful surfaces have been refined for an engaging result. The upper character line, with its subtle undercut, is an example of the care taken with the stampings throughout.” Engineering guru Chris Theodore found the exterior “tastefully executed with really tight shut lines and nice detailing.” The result is sort of a time-release appeal that blossoms upon close scrutiny or when hand-washing the vehicle. It’s a less flashy design than the Sonata’s, but way more cohesive than the Accord’s.

There’s nothing trendy going on inside, either, which may let it age more gracefully than bolder designs. Gale admits the design “breaks little new ground, but the grain, gloss levels, and material choices are tasteful.” He and others criticized the choice to prioritize the dash vents over the multifunction display, the low placement of which looks dated and represents an ergonomic back-step. Ditto the fiddly turn-signal-stalk cruise controls and the entertainment system’s lack of a USB port (Bluetooth and an SD card are supported, and there’s a 1/8-inch aux jack). But the car’s functions can be intuitively controlled without consulting the owners’ manual — something Accord owners may appreciate.

ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE
OK, the engineers among us dislike odd-numbered cylinder counts like this 2.5-liter’s, but Theodore grudgingly admitted, “It’s the best-tamed VW I-5 application ever. The thrashiness has been masked, and the engine is very quiet. A fine choice for middle America in real-world driving conditions.” Your technical director’s log reads: “This 2.5 appears to have finally found a good home,” with praise for strong launch torque that keeps pace with the competition to 30 mph thanks to short gearing (its 9.0-second 0-60 time trails the competition notably).

Characterizations of the engine note ranged from “moaning” to “unique growl,” but the general consensus was that the powertrain integration team earned its kibble. Sure, we wish it were a sprightlier sprinter, but we expect a direct-injected and/or turbocharged four-cylinder replacement to arrive soon.

EFFICIENCY
It should surprise no one that over the course of 11 mixed-driving loops, our diesel Passat recorded the highest fuel economy stats of this year’s finalists at 34.3 mpg. Perhaps more interesting was the base 2.5-liter’s fifth-best 26.5 mpg — that’s exactly halfway between the EPA city and highway ratings of 22/31 mpg. That’s higher within its EPA-predicted economy range than any other finalist managed, and the second highest was the TDI/DSG at 43 percent of its 30/40-mpg points spread (we didn’t run the VR6 on our fuel-economy loops). This bodes exceptionally well for real-world achievability of the Passat’s window-sticker numbers. Not penurious enough with the petrol? Opt for the base five-speed manual in the SE to eke out one more highway mpg, or the six-speed manual TDI to earn an even better 31/43 mpg.

SAFETY
Like every new car in the segment, the Passat gets six airbags to cushion the occupants if it all goes wrong, plus stability control, tire-pressure monitoring, ABS, brake-assist, and myriad other electronic aids to prevent things from going wrong in the first place. But what’s more fun to talk about under the safety rubric is how well the Passat’s chassis is tuned to keep it out of trouble, because well-driven, agile cars are less likely to plow into things than poorly controlled, flabby, clumsy ones.

VALUE
Here’s where VW’s $4-billion Chattanooga plant investment pays off for U.S. buyers — by insulating us from the strong Euro currency that forced the outgoing Passat 2.0T to sell as a Eurochic niche player, base priced at a heady $27,945. That kind of money will buy a nice TDI nowadays, while the mainstream 2.5 SE opens at $20,765. Thirty grand buys a range-topping VR6 that handily out-chics and out-streaks the old EuroPassat, not to mention the V-6 or turbo variants of its family-sedan competitors.
Ownership costs are also further suppressed by VW’s Carefree Maintenance Program, which picks up the tab for all scheduled stops during the 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

PERFORMANCE OF INTENDED FUNCTION
It’s in this category the bigger Passat really shines. Its family-schlepping credentials are impressive. With nearly 49 cubic feet of rear-seat space, “I can comfortably cross my legs while sitting behind a driver seat set to my 5-foot 11-inch height,” noted Loh. Jurnecka proclaimed it “like a limo in back — a great budget Audi.” Add to this a usefully cubic 15.9-cubic-foot trunk with split-folding seats and set it all down on a chassis with the moves to make an enthusiast smile, and we’ve got a pretty interesting new dog in the midsize-sedan fight.

CLOSEST VOTE EVER
Editor-in-chief Mackenzie always asks his 10 fellow COTY judges for their top three picks. This year, the voting was tied 5-5 (with one errant vote) between the Passat and Chrysler’s 300. It was still tied after a count of second-place votes, and the Passat eked ahead only after third-place votes had been counted. Two worthy cars. But there can be only one… As for our jury? The verdict is in: Volkswagen’s less-boring-than-it-looks, 100-percent-German-driving Passat is Motor Trend’s Car of the Year.

Volkswagen of Naples is proud to announce the 2012 Passat TDI SE comes in 1st place!

Check out Motor Trend’s recent comparison of the 2012 Passat TDI SE, now available at Volkswagen of Naples, to 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE.
Three sedans that will pump you up… by rarely going to the pump
The resurgence of the compact sedan — Elantra, Cruze, Focus, et al. — over the last few years is due in large part to the segment’s combination of growing dimensions and continued high fuel economy. These small four-doors offer the room of an older-generation midsize while still providing the fuel mileage of a present-day subcompact, and sometimes better. As a result, American families have been eating up these compacts at alarming rates. The Cruze, for instance, has surpassed the Malibu as Chevy’s best-selling car. But if a not-so-small small car is still too small, even new midsize sedans are showing glimmers of high-mileage hope. Take the previous test’s Camry LE, which sips gas at the miserly rate of 25 mpg city/35 mpg highway yet still offers an E-Class-size interior and trunk. Still not good enough? If your idea of the ultimate sedan is a tantalizing blend of dynamic performance, passenger volume, and, most important, fantabulous fuel economy,
the midsize hypermiler is it. Gathered here are three of the latest and greatest: the 37-mpg Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the 40-mpg Toyota Camry Hybrid, and the 34-mpg VW Passat TDI. To the pumps!
3RD PLACE: HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID
We first clicked said pumps at Hyundai’s proving ground in California City, out in the toasty Mojave Desert. Nearly 300 miles later, we were back at the proving ground to close our fuel logs. I wish I had better news for Hyundai, but its Sonata Hybrid, EPA-estimated to return 35 city/40 highway, mustered a disappointing 27.0 mpg observed, almost 10 mpg less than its hybrid foe from Toyota. What gives?
“Both the gas engine and electric motor really need to be wrung out to even keep up with the Camry and Passat,” judged Kong. “The poor electric motor, which serves as the six-speed auto’s torque converter, is overworked, and, as a consequence, the car really struggles under high-load conditions and overall integration is not smooth. If the electric motor were more powerful (it’s outpaced by the Camry Hybrid’s primary tractive motor by 101 hp), it might help.” Not only did the Sonata’s fuel economy suffer, so did its track performance, trailing the Camry to 60 by a monstrous 2.3 seconds–and Hyundai claims 6 horsepower more than Toyota with similar weight-to-power. Hyundai also touts its use of a conventional automatic and lighter lithium-polymer batteries, both of which are supposed to work better than their CVT and nickel-metal hydride/lithium-ion counterparts. But the net results say the opposite. Making things worse, we rated the Sonata’s steering too rubbery, the brakes too grabby, and the throttle too jerky.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Sonata Hybrid. The design differentiators, from the LED headlamp accents and unique LED taillamps to the wind-cutting 17-inch alloys and vibrant hybrid technology display, were all well-executed, giving the Hyundai a rich, techy appearance. And the soft leather-adorned interior and panoramic sunroof made the cabin a welcoming space. Ultimately, though, this Sonata’s last name means it needed to be much more competitive with the others, especially the Camry.
2ND PLACE: TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID XLE
Our collective pick was not the Camry, but not because we weren’t immensely impressed. This new topline XLE, returning a slightly worse 40 mpg combined compared with 41 from the marginally lighter LE, treats feathery-footed drivers to better fuel economy than both the Sonata Hybrid and Ford Fusion Hybrid. Better yet, for heavy-footed pilots, the Camry XLE can still deliver in the neighborhood of 37 mpg (we saw 36.9 observed), not to mention surprisingly  brisk acceleration times. How brisk? With its new 2.5-liter 156-hp I-4 and 141-hp electric motor, the XLE whirred from 0 to 60 in just 7.2 seconds, only 0.2 behind the 274-hp Sonata 2.0T.
Perhaps more impressive than its quickness, the Camry is a model of seamless operation. Save for the slightest of vibrations from its engine start/stop system, the Camry keeps its hybridness a secret; the regenerative brakes are progressive, the throttle response linear, and the steering light and direct. Compared with the developmental-league Hyundai, the Toyota plays in the pros. If you didn’t know it was a hybrid, the Camry would lead you to believe it was a deftly executed gas-only sedan with some extra pop under the hood.
What kept the Camry from taking the gold was a driving experience less satisfying and memorable than the Passat’s and an interior that, while ergonomically sound and of high quality, came across too overwrought, what with big steering wheel-mounted controls and extra-large buttons and knobs decorating the center stack. Otherwise, this new hybrid is arguably the best Camry ever.
1ST PLACE: VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT TDI SE
Two noteworthy factoids about our twin-clutch-equipped Passat TDI: One, with an 18.5-gallon fuel tank and a highway rating of 40 mpg, its cruising range is an interstate-friendly 740 miles. (For manual enthusiasts, the TDI can be equipped with a six-speed stick, which, thanks to 43-mpg highway, bumps range to 796.) Compare that stretch with the Camry’s 646 and the Sonata’s 688, and you can see why the TDI is our open-road champion. Two, minus any of the hybrids’ space-robbing batteries, the TDI retains its huge 15.9 cubic feet of trunk space — 2.8 more than Camry and 5.2 more than the Sonata.
Of course, there’s so much more to love with the TDI. “The 2.0-liter diesel is the perfect engine for the new Passat. It’s got the low-end torque and the power density suitable to propel the car
for 99 percent of midsize buyer’s needs,” said Kong. And by low-end torque, we’re talking 236 lb-ft at a basement 1500 rpm, enough oomph to shove the TDI from 0 to 60 in 8.7 seconds. That time is noticeably slower than the Camry’s, but the TDI doesn’t feel noticeably slower under normal driving conditions, thanks in part to the speedy twin-clutch DSG that snaps off shifts in mere milliseconds, always riding on top of that wave of torque. When the road goes all serpentine, the TDI morphs into a big mongoose, its best-in-test 0.80 g lateral accel and 124-foot 60-0 braking distance working harmoniously with the first-rate steering and taut, lively suspension to deliver a rewarding, responsive drive that can’t be matched in this group.
Forced to find faults, we could only come up with the lack of an iPod/USB interface. This Passat is that well-rounded and that well-executed. Which is why the TDI is the hottest hypermiler available today.

The all-new 2012 Passat, now with limited availability at Volkswagen of Naples, was awarded the IIHS top safety pick,

which is the highest rating possible from the non-profit safety research organization!

The first Volkswagen model to be built at its new Chattanooga, TN plant, the 2012 Volkswagen Passat, has earned “Top Safety Pick” honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The award signifies that the new Passat has earned a rating of “Good” (the IIHS’ highest ranking) in frontal offset and side impact crash testing, as well as in the agency’s roof strength testing.

All Top Safety Pick award winners also come with electronic stability control and head protection airbags, which the new Passat includes across the model range.

The 2012 Volkswagen Passat becomes the eighth Volkswagen model in its current product line to earn the Top Safety Pick award, demonstrating the manufacturer’s focus on building vehicles with the highest possible safety ratings. Other VW models earning the award include the 2011 CC 2.0L TSI, the 2011 Jetta and Jetta SportWagen, the 2011 Tiguan, the 2011 Touareg, and all 2011 Golf and GTI four-door models.

Class-leading rear seat legroom

Highly contented with standard premium features such as automatic dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth®

No-charge three-year/36,000-mile scheduled Care free Maintenance® program

The all-new 2012 Volkswagen Passat has created a new, sky-high standard in the mid-size luxury sedan class.

Here is a mid-size sedan with the space and comfort of many full-size models, offering remarkable, best-in-class, stretch-out rear-seat legroom and trunk space to match.

The Passat TDI version—the only clean diesel option in the segment—delivers an estimated 43 miles per gallon on the highway with the manual transmission, with a range of almost 800 miles. That’s New York to Chicago, San Francisco to Seattle. On one tank.

And it is being built in Chattanooga, Tenn., in a plant with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. One key measure at the plant is the use a painting process without any filler, which reduces CO2 emissions by about 20 percent.

If all that wasn’t impressive enough, the 2012 Passat comes with a starting MSRP of just $19,995 for a five-cylinder model with standard dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth® connectivity, steering wheel audio controls, and all scheduled maintenance covered under Volkswagen’s no-charge three-year/36,000-mile Carefree Maintenance program

Exterior

The Passat’s balanced proportions give it a unique, timeless and dominant styling, reflecting the new Volkswagen Design DNA developed by Walter de Silva, the Italian design chief for the Volkswagen Group, and Klaus Bischoff, the German design leader for the Volkswagen Brand.
The signature clean design, with a predominance of horizontal body elements, reinforces the Passat’s position as the sophisticated choice in the midsize segment. The bottom line: this car looks a lot more expensive than it actually is.

The key identifying feature of a strong brand is the styling of its front end. Here the Passat displays the new horizontal brand face, with the three-blade grille and headlights forming a single unit.

The Passat’s grille is sculpted in a three-dimensional shape and stands more upright and makes a more distinctive and elegant impression in its stricter geometry. Beneath the front bumper is a large, lower intake with a striking honeycomb surface and available corner-illuminating foglights housed at each end.

From the side profile, the muscular ridge in the sill area creates a lively interplay of light reflections. Powerfully sculpted wheel arches emphasize the dynamic properties of the Passat. To emphasize the aerodynamic styling of the Passat, the roof lines flow toward the back with a nearly coupe-like cut of the rear window. Three side windows create luxury-class style with a long, extended glass surface.

The rear section is also dominated by horizontal lines. The lines of the large taillights rise toward the sides, underscoring the dynamics of the elegant rear styling. Another unique feature here is the design of the two-part taillights that are integrated in the rear fender and trunk lid.

This is a generously-proportioned four-door sedan and the largest Passat ever. Nose to tail it measures 191.6 inches and features a stretched 110.4-inch wheelbase and 72.2-inch width, which allows such exceptional rear-seat space.

Interior

The 2012 Passat is unique in the Volkswagen family in that it was designed and specifically tailored for American tastes and American lifestyles.

So the cabin of the all-new Passat delivers space, and plenty of it. There’s room for five adults to really stretch out in comfort. And with four large, wide-opening doors, getting in and out is a cinch.

There’s also a true elegance and simplicity about the layout. Nothing here is trendy or over-done. The lines flow in an easy-on-the-eye style, complimented by the highest-quality materials applied with painstaking attention to detail.

The instrument panel is similar to that of Volkswagen’s flagship model, the all-new Touareg. Available chrome-trimmed gauges surround a digital multifunction display. A high-end chrome look is also applied to the air vents in the cockpit, and to the surrounds of the radio, navigation system and the climate control panels. The rotary light switch and parking brake handle button are also treated in chrome. Except for the base version, all other Passat trims have chrome interior accents on the window, mirror adjustment and trunk opening switches

The seats are exceptionally comfortable, with an emphasis on providing extra side- and under-thigh support for long-distance road trips. Even in the base version, the driver’s seat adjusts eight ways, including lumbar, while most models feature eight-way power adjustment. Inviting cloth trim is offered with the base S model, with the SE versions feature Volkswagen’s trademark perforated V-Tex leatherette, and SEL models moving up to full leather seating surfaces.

New Fender® Premium Audio

There is no shortage of entertainment system options with the 2012 Passat—but the most exciting is the brand new Fender Premium Audio System, which was designed to bring the raw emotion of a live music performance to the driving experience.

The system was developed through collaboration between Fender, the legendary music amplification experts, who also make some of the coolest guitars for the rock star elite, and Panasonic®. It cranks out 400 watts of power played through nine speakers, including a trunk-mounted subwoofer.

And the same cool, chromed Fender logo that has graced the guitar ‘amps’ of some of the world’s music legends, is featured on the A-pillar tweeters on the Passat’s Fender system.

Engines and Transmissions

The all-new Passat offers three drivetrain options: a responsive 2.5-liter gasoline engine, a remarkably fuel efficient 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel and a powerful 3.6-liter VR6®.

The refined, 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine features double chain-driven overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and maintenance-free hydraulic lifters. It makes 177-horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque and is available with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, or with an optional six-speed automatic.

The 2.0-liter TDI® Clean Diesel in-line four-cylinder engine produces 140 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.

It delivers an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 43 mpg on the highway when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, giving a range of 795 miles on one tank of ultra-low-sulfur clean diesel. The TDI engine is equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction System (SCR), a clean engine that fulfills emissions requirements in all 50 states.

Optional on the Passat TDI Clean Diesel is Volkswagen’s DSG® six-speed automatic. This dual-clutch transmission is considered the most-efficient automatic in the world. It incorporates a dual-clutch system that instantly engages and disengages gears without the need for a clutch pedal. With a special computer controlling the process, one clutch is engaged on the next gear, while the clutch from the previous gear is released.

The results are crisp, quick shifts, without the loss of power that is experienced with a traditional manual gearbox. It’s the perfect choice for drivers who want the performance of a traditional manual transmission with the precision of an automatic.

The 3.6 liter VR6 makes the new Passat a top-flight sport sedan. Producing an impressive 280 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, it offers power and luxury-class driving comfort, with European-type restraint in its fuel consumption—the EPA highway estimate is 28 mpg. Shifting on the new Passat VR6 is handled by a standard six-speed DSG.

Suspension

The 2012 Passat has been designed to feature the kind of dynamic, involved handling and precise steering drivers have come to expect of a Volkswagen. The new Passat may be a big car, but it drives small.

Its front suspension features the proven Volkswagen formula of struts with robust lower control arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, there’s a sophisticated four-link independent layout with telescopic dampers and an anti-roll bar. The axle is acoustically de-coupled from the body to help reduce road noise or vibration.

The steering system comprises a power-assisted rack-and-pinion set-up, perfectly weighted to provide a balance between precision at higher speeds, and lower steering weight at parking speeds. Swinging into that tight, mall parking spot is easy, thanks to the Passat’s 36.4-foot turning radius and three turns lock-to-lock.

Safety and Security

Safety is not on the option list at Volkswagen, which is why every 2012 Passat comes with a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features.

Safety starts with a specially-reinforced safety cage, complete with anti-intrusion side beams and forged steel roof B-pillars. Behind the sleek nose, there is a crash-optimized front-end featuring integrated impact-absorbing elements that help minimize the collision energy.

Naturally, every new 2012 Passat comes with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) that helps compensate for oversteer or understeer by applying individual corrective forces to each of the wheels. Also standard is an Anti-lock Braking System, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring, and Volkswagen’s acclaimed Intelligent Crash Response System. In the event of a collision it automatically unlocks the doors, shuts off the fuel pump, and even turns on the hazard warning lights.

The six standard airbags include driver and front passenger front and side thorax airbags, together with Side Curtain Protection® airbags front and rear.

Peace of mind in owning a new Passat comes from Volkswagen’s no-charge Carefree Maintenance Program. It covers all scheduled maintenance for the length of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which is three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
