Lease VS Buy

When it’s time for your next vehicle, you’ll find yourself facing more decisions than simply “what make/model do I want?” The majority of us will end up financing rather than paying cash, but that raises a very important question; should you lease or buy?

The answer is not the same for everyone, so Volkswagen of Naples has created this nifty infographic exploring a few basic questions you should be asking yourself before making this decision. That’s not all there is to it, though, so let’s get a little more in-depth with the advantages and disadvantages
VW Lease VS Buy-2Leasing

When you lease a vehicle, you will end up with a lower monthly payment with less money due at signing than you would if you took out a loan to purchase the same vehicle. This is because you are essentially renting the vehicle for 2-4 years, so you are only paying for the portion of the vehicle that you plan to use. This is great especially when you are considering something brand new as it allows you to get a vehicle that would otherwise be out of your price range.

The lease agreement does have a disadvantage for some people depending on their driving habits. In your lease, you agree to driving up to a certain amount of miles per year (usually up to 15k/year). If you go over these miles at the end of the lease, it can cost you. If you tend to drive a lot, you should consider buying. Another thing that can be held against you in a lease is excessive wear and tear, however, Volkswagen offers several insurance packages for a small fee to protect you from any unpleasant financial surprises at the end of your lease.

Keeping with financial implications, leasing is great for people who can claim their vehicle as a business expense. When tax season rolls around, remember that leases are deductible! You can’t write off the purchase of a vehicle, but you can with a lease.

Leased vehicles belong to the bank. At the end of your lease term, you do not own the vehicle as you would with a loan when purchasing a vehicle. You then have the option toturn in the vehicle and walk away,
purchase your leased vehicle and make it yours, or lease a brand new one! If you like to have the latest and greatest technology and a brand new vehicle, this is perfect for you! Leases generally last 2-4 years and you can get a brand new vehicle once your term is up. You also do not have to deal with the hassle of selling or trading in your vehicle when you are ready for a new one. Depreciation is not your problem!

Leases can rid you of negative equity. Do often find yourself owing more than what your vehicle is worth with every purchase? It can sometimes seem like you’ll never get out from under it – but fear not! If you have great credit and are willing to make higher payments for a few years, you can rid yourself of this negative equity by rolling it into a lease. Your payments will be high for the next few years, but once your lease term is up, you can turn it in and you will not have any negative equity to speak of! It was all absorbed by the lease.

There is one downside to this – you cannot simply turn in your lease whenever you please. You are locked into the contract for the term that you signed for, and it can sometimes be very difficult and expensive to get out early. If you need the ability sell your vehicle at a moment’s notice or keep it for a very long period of time, then leasing might not be for you.

Buying

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room right off the bat: depreciation. Yes, your vehicle depreciates. Its value goes down as soon as you buy it. For this reason, purchasing a lightly used pre owned or a Certified Pre Owned VW can be the most cost effective option – but let’s admit it. There’s nothing quite like that new car smell, and some of us simply cannot resist.

When you purchase a vehicle, unlike leasing, the vehicle is yours to do with as you please. This doesn’t just play on the feeling of ownership; it does have some very important advantages and disadvantages. If you suddenly need to get rid of your vehicle or get something else, buying gives you flexibility to do so. For example, say you purchase a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible and a few months later you find out that you are expecting a little bundle of joy. A small convertible will no longer suit your needs, and you’ll need to opt for something larger like a Passat or a Tiguan SUV. Since you purchased rather than leased your Beetle, you can simply trade it in for something that better suits your needs – and you may even have some positive equity to play with!

The other side of this advantage is that you can keep your vehicle for as long as you want! Some of us tend to get attached and like to keep our vehicles for a long time, and sometimes even pass them down to our children. Buying allows you to do this…. Or not! The choice is yours, and you can decide when you’re ready.

Another advantage is no mileage restrictions! Since the vehicle is yours, it does not matter how much or how little you drive. You can drive cross country whenever you feel like it!

It is important to talk about credit scores too. To lease, you must have excellent credit. If you are concerned about your credit score, or if you already know that it’s on the lower side, then buying will likely be your best bet. Whichever route you take, as long as you keep up with your payments, you can improve your credit score thanks to your new car!

We hope that this was helpful to you! If you have further questions or if you are ready to buy or lease your new Volkswagen, please stop by Volkswagen of Naples or call us at (866) 364-0242.

2015 Volkswagen GTI: First Drive & Review

The 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR has arrived!

This GSR is one of 3500 that will be sold in the U.S. Here now at Volkswagen of Naples!!!

(Source: Volkswagen of America, Inc)

With this new car, Volkswagen has re-interpreted the 1970s GSR for the modern era. The bodyshell of the 1973 Beetle was painted yellow, while the hood, trunklid, and bumpers were finished in matte black. The look was rounded out by black trim strips underneath the side windows and black rocker panels. Yellow and black link old and new: the body and the R-Line® bumpers on the new GSR are predominantly yellow, the hood is mainly black, and the trunklid, roof, and the exterior mirror caps are all black. The new car has yellow/black stripes with “GSR” lettering above the side skirts and a large rear spoiler to complete the look. The stance of the new car is very different, as it rides on 19-inch “Tornado” aluminum-alloy wheels shod with 235/40 tires, compared with the original GSR’s 15-inch steel wheels and 175-section tires, which were quite common even on sporty cars back then. The new GSR also features silver-painted brake calipers.

Then as now, the GSR features a unique interior with a yellow/black theme, sport seats, and a leather sport steering wheel. The new GSR is a lot more sophisticated, however. The black-trimmed leather sport seats and high-grip leather steering wheel both have contrasting yellow stitching, for example. Other interior changes include an R-Line dash pad, a GSR shift lever, a leather handbrake lever, and black floormats with contrasting yellow embroidery. A badge on the steering wheel is marked with the special-edition number (1 through 3500) to emphasize the uniqueness of the car.

Forty years ago, the Beetle GSR had all of 50 horsepower, enough to give it the requisite performance for a sporty compact of the time. But the modern world demands much more under the hood. The new GSR’s 210 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque enable the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds and to reach an electronically governed top track speed of 130 mph. Most impressively, the engine delivers peak torque from as low as 1700 rpm, giving smooth, effortless acceleration in all the gears. The GSR is standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but a dual-clutch DSG® six-speed automatic transmission will be an option.

Just like its predecessor, only 3500 GSR models will be made—and more than half of those will be sold in the U.S. Since the GSR is based on the Beetle Turbo with Sunroof and Sound model, it comes comprehensively equipped with the Fender® Premium Audio System; a panoramic sunroof; Keyless access with push-button start; Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs; LED license-plate lighting; heatable front seats; Bluetooth® connectivity; a Media Device Interface (MDI) with iPod® cable; three-color ambient lighting; aluminum-alloy pedals; and three auxiliary instruments that include a clock with a stopwatch function and a boost gauge. The Volkswagen Beetle GSR will go on sale in the fall as a 2014 model; pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Volkswagen of Naples Reports VW Revs Up Profits and Pressure on GM

As annual profits go, Volkswagen hit it out of the park, as reported this week by CNBC.com News.

In fact, the record profit the German automaker announced at its annual meeting on Monday will have a lot of people wondering why it made nearly triple the amount of money GM did last year Overall, VW posted a net profit of $20.1 billion dollars with annual revenue surging 26% to $207.1 billion. Yes, some of the VW profit was helped by a revaluation gain on the options it holds to buy a remaining 50.1% of Porsche. Still, the staggering 58% jump in operating profits shows just how successful last year was for VW.

Compare those figures with General Motors. GM made $7.6 billion last year. By all accounts, it was a fantastic year for GM, especially coming just two years after bankruptcy. But with VW breathing nipping at the heels of GM to become the world’s largest automaker, its worth comparing GM and VW. And for that, one figure stands out. In 2011, VW made approximately $55 million every day while GM made approximately $21 million.

So why the difference? Both automakers are racking up sizable profits in China. And while GM made the bulk of its money in the U.S., VW continues to struggle here. By comparison, Volkswagen is still profiting in Europe while GM lost $700 million in that continent. One key differentiator between GM and VW is the strength of their luxury divisions. Cadillac is largely a North American brand, just starting to grow overseas. For Volkswagen, there is a portfolio of strong earnings contributors including Bentley and Porsche. And then there is Audi. It generated more profits for VW than any other brand. Audi’s operating profit last year surged by $2.6 billion.

In 2011 VW sold 1.3 million Audi vehicles around the world. It was the 16th best-selling brand of the year. Cadillac? GM sold just under 200,000 last year, making it the 52nd best-selling brand in 2011. Watch Audi over the next two years. It will be a key player in Volkswagen’s stated goal of eclipsing GM to become the world’s top automaker. In terms of profit, the German automaker has already far exceeded GM.

Think new, think two, Think Blue: Volkswagen of Naples reports Volkswagen announces two new members of the Think Blue family.

Think of them as fraternal twins. At the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen unveiled two new future-forward members of the Think Blue family: the Jetta Hybrid and the E-Bugster concept car.

Joining our production TDI models as well as our up! And NILS concept car in the Think Blue line, the Jetta Hybrid and E-Bugster are big on performance and light on carbon footprint. Both new vehicles are great examples of Think Blue, Volkswagen’s initiative to create environmentally friendly solutions, encourage eco-conscious behavior and contribute to a sustainable future.

“Think Blue is the philosophy behind our environmentally friendly, high-performance cars, fueled by TDI clean diesel,” comments Brian Massoll, Managing Partner, Volkswagen of Naples, located in Naples, Florida.

The Jetta Hybrid offers all the style and driving fun you’ve come to expect from the Jetta, but what makes this model different is—well, lots of things. For one, it’s the world’s first hybrid to use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. But don’t worry—we didn’t sacrifice the any of the performance you’ve come to expect from the Jetta. Sure, it drives as a full EV up to 44 mph, but when you’re ready to rev it up, the Jetta Hybrid will take you from 0-60 mph in less than 9.0 seconds. Turns out saving the earth can be a lot of fun.

The E-Bugster concept vehicle is a truly unique creation. The “E” in its name is for “electric,” and “Bugster” is a combination of “Bug” and “speedster,” an apt name for the open-top two-seater with shallow windows and a cut-down windshield. But unlike other speedsters, the E-Bugster boasts a lithium-ion battery that enables it car to drive more than 100 emission-free miles at a time. While it takes design cues from the classic Beetle, it also features futuristic styling, like an arched and stretched front end, LED Daytime Running Lights that form a distinctive graphic on either side of the lower air intake in the front bumper, and EV-specific gauges.

Spied! 2012 Volkswagen New Beetle – Spy Shot at Volkswagen of Naples!

The 2012 VW Beetle, now available at Volkswagen of Naples located in Naples, Florida, loses some curves for a leaner and contemporary look.

The completely redesigned 2012 VolkswagenBeetle made its Southwest Florida debut today at Volkswagen of Naples, locatedat 601 Airport Road, S., Naples, Florida. Returning to the VW lineup for the first time since 2009, this third-generation recast of one of the world’s best-known and most iconic models has been re-envisioned to establish new “21st Century” benchmarks for style, performance and safety.

Even at a glance, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle retains a number of unmistakable signature cues derived from both the original and the New Beetle. However, this redesign rolls into the future intentionally trading off a measure of classic cute for a healthy dose of contemporary edge in the car’s redrawn, albeit still decidedly organic, contours.

The new look sheds the New Beetle’s “three-semicircle” design in favor of a look more reminiscent of the first-generation exercise — and one that appears to be a well-calculated mini morph towards Porsche 911 territory. Its longer front clip plus greater cabin setback accompanied by a more upright windshield and a “stretched” window graphic are complemented by reshaped fenders and a sweeping roofline anchored by a more elegant c-pillar. Set off by new and bolder front/rear lighting designs — including optional bi-xenon headlamps — and standard 17-inch to available 19-inch wheel/tire fitments, the 2012 Beetle makes a far more purposeful visual statement even sitting still.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle has grown physically as well as conceptually. Gaining 150 pounds, it’s also 3.3 inches wider than its predecessor and 6.0-inches longer, with a 1.1-inch stretch in wheelbase and 3.2-inch wider front/rear track dimensions. While overall height has been lowered by 0.5 inch, the tallest point in the roofline is now over the rear not the front seat area, a subtle change that enhances the 2012 Beetle’s profile as well as the absolute headroom in its aft quarters.

Beneath that bolder bodywork, the front-drive 2012 Volkswagen Beetle shares much of its basic platform architecture with the Golf VI. However, in addition to various suspension recalibrations, it also boasts two bespoke, model-specific rear-axle designs, one torsion beam and one fully-independent multilink.

At launch, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will offer the choice of a 2.5-liter inline-five that makes 177 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI Turbo engine that cranks out 200 horses and 207 lb-ft of torque. The former can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic and is projected to deliver up to 10 percent better overall fuel economy than its predecessor while the Turbo will offer a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic — the first-ever DSG fitment on a Beetle — and come with VW’s XDS cross differential limited-slip system that can transfer torque to the wheel with the most traction.

Inside, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle offers an equally updated appearance in an even more driver-oriented cockpit that brings a unique flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel and
dedicated instrument cluster along with dramatic color-keyed dash treatments. Passenger space up front has grown a bit and while rear legroom remains acceptable if not generous both hip and headroom have increased in the aft quarters. The biggest space gain is in the redesigned trunk, whose capacity has grown from 7.4 to 10.9 cubic feet of space and a far user-friendly deck lid cutout. The 2012 Beetle also gains standard 60/40 split/folding rear seatbacks to add even more utility.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is now on sale at Volkswagen of Naples, www.vwofnaples.com. What lies ahead for Volkswagen of Naples? We do know that a Convertible will join the lineup sometime in calendar 2012 and that a super-hot “R” variant could be in the cards somewhere further down the line. VW also plans to offer wide variety of dedicated personalization accessories for the car — and says it will create annual “theme models” in lieu of traditional facelifts. The only way to find out is visit Volkswagen of Naples for more information.

For the first time, the Beetle will be offered with Bi-xenon headlights. These will be available on future Beetle models, framing the xenon module on the outer perimeters of the headlights and serving as the daytime running lights and parking lights.

Safety and Security
The starting point in the Beetle’s safety armory is a very rigid body structure that uses ultrahigh- strength, hot-formed steels in the crash-load paths and seamless laser welds. Electronic Stability
Control (ESC) is standard, as are driver and front passenger airbags and Side Curtain Protection® airbags in front and rear. The Beetle includes Volkswagen’s advanced Intelligent Crash Response System that shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and switches on the hazard lights if the car is involved in certain types of collision.

The 21st Century Beetle is also covered under the no-charge Carefree Maintenance Program All scheduled maintenance is covered for the length of the New Vehicle Warranty—three
years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Additionally, all current Volkswagen vehicles use synthetic oil, which, when combined with state-of-the-art German engineering, eliminates the need for a 5000-mile oil change, and allows ownersto go farther between scheduled oil changes.

Volkswagen of Naples debuts a new version of the Beetle. There’s nothing radical here, but mild styling and engineering changes should make this iconic car more desirable.

The 2012 Volkswagen New Beetle, available soon at Volkswagen of Naples located in Naples Florida, will be fully redesigned. Highlights include slightly more aggressive styling, an updated interior and the return of turbocharged and diesel engines.

First, there was the original Volkswagen Beetle, a car known for being one of the most popular vehicles of all time and, of only slightly less importance, the star of The Love Bug. Then there was the vehicle sequel, the 1998 New Beetle. It was hugely popular at first, but a lack of updates over the years diminished its appeal. Now for 2012, there’s finally a new, era, New Beetle.

“We are very excited Volkswagen has taken a cautious approach in terms of design” comments Brian Massoll, General Sales Manager of Volkswagen of Naples. “And, actually we are just calling the car “Beetle.” The overall look is still unmistakable, but there’s now a lower profile and a front windshield that is shifted farther back. The new Beetle coupe is 3.3 inches wider and 6 inches longer than the outgoing model. Inside, VW has drawn upon elements from the original Beetle, such as incorporating two glove boxes.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will be available in two trim lines: Design and Sport. Options will include a Fender premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof and bi-xenon headlights. The engine lineup is similar to the one you’ll find in the latest Jetta. It includes a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine, a 140-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI clean diesel and a 200-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Transmission choices, depending on the engine, include a five-speed manual, a six-speed automatic and a six-speed dual-clutch automated manual.

These updates will no doubt restore some luster to the Beetle and make it a more appealing choice for an affordable small coupe. The 2012 VW Beetle’s launch will be later this fall. Please contact Volkswagen of Naples for further additional information and complete buying advice.
