Lease VS Buy

When it’s time for your next vehicle, you’ll find yourself facing more decisions than simply “what make/model do I want?” The majority of us will end up financing rather than paying cash, but that raises a very important question; should you lease or buy?

The answer is not the same for everyone, so Volkswagen of Naples has created this nifty infographic exploring a few basic questions you should be asking yourself before making this decision. That’s not all there is to it, though, so let’s get a little more in-depth with the advantages and disadvantages
VW Lease VS Buy-2Leasing

When you lease a vehicle, you will end up with a lower monthly payment with less money due at signing than you would if you took out a loan to purchase the same vehicle. This is because you are essentially renting the vehicle for 2-4 years, so you are only paying for the portion of the vehicle that you plan to use. This is great especially when you are considering something brand new as it allows you to get a vehicle that would otherwise be out of your price range.

The lease agreement does have a disadvantage for some people depending on their driving habits. In your lease, you agree to driving up to a certain amount of miles per year (usually up to 15k/year). If you go over these miles at the end of the lease, it can cost you. If you tend to drive a lot, you should consider buying. Another thing that can be held against you in a lease is excessive wear and tear, however, Volkswagen offers several insurance packages for a small fee to protect you from any unpleasant financial surprises at the end of your lease.

Keeping with financial implications, leasing is great for people who can claim their vehicle as a business expense. When tax season rolls around, remember that leases are deductible! You can’t write off the purchase of a vehicle, but you can with a lease.

Leased vehicles belong to the bank. At the end of your lease term, you do not own the vehicle as you would with a loan when purchasing a vehicle. You then have the option toturn in the vehicle and walk away,
purchase your leased vehicle and make it yours, or lease a brand new one! If you like to have the latest and greatest technology and a brand new vehicle, this is perfect for you! Leases generally last 2-4 years and you can get a brand new vehicle once your term is up. You also do not have to deal with the hassle of selling or trading in your vehicle when you are ready for a new one. Depreciation is not your problem!

Leases can rid you of negative equity. Do often find yourself owing more than what your vehicle is worth with every purchase? It can sometimes seem like you’ll never get out from under it – but fear not! If you have great credit and are willing to make higher payments for a few years, you can rid yourself of this negative equity by rolling it into a lease. Your payments will be high for the next few years, but once your lease term is up, you can turn it in and you will not have any negative equity to speak of! It was all absorbed by the lease.

There is one downside to this – you cannot simply turn in your lease whenever you please. You are locked into the contract for the term that you signed for, and it can sometimes be very difficult and expensive to get out early. If you need the ability sell your vehicle at a moment’s notice or keep it for a very long period of time, then leasing might not be for you.

Buying

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room right off the bat: depreciation. Yes, your vehicle depreciates. Its value goes down as soon as you buy it. For this reason, purchasing a lightly used pre owned or a Certified Pre Owned VW can be the most cost effective option – but let’s admit it. There’s nothing quite like that new car smell, and some of us simply cannot resist.

When you purchase a vehicle, unlike leasing, the vehicle is yours to do with as you please. This doesn’t just play on the feeling of ownership; it does have some very important advantages and disadvantages. If you suddenly need to get rid of your vehicle or get something else, buying gives you flexibility to do so. For example, say you purchase a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible and a few months later you find out that you are expecting a little bundle of joy. A small convertible will no longer suit your needs, and you’ll need to opt for something larger like a Passat or a Tiguan SUV. Since you purchased rather than leased your Beetle, you can simply trade it in for something that better suits your needs – and you may even have some positive equity to play with!

The other side of this advantage is that you can keep your vehicle for as long as you want! Some of us tend to get attached and like to keep our vehicles for a long time, and sometimes even pass them down to our children. Buying allows you to do this…. Or not! The choice is yours, and you can decide when you’re ready.

Another advantage is no mileage restrictions! Since the vehicle is yours, it does not matter how much or how little you drive. You can drive cross country whenever you feel like it!

It is important to talk about credit scores too. To lease, you must have excellent credit. If you are concerned about your credit score, or if you already know that it’s on the lower side, then buying will likely be your best bet. Whichever route you take, as long as you keep up with your payments, you can improve your credit score thanks to your new car!

We hope that this was helpful to you! If you have further questions or if you are ready to buy or lease your new Volkswagen, please stop by Volkswagen of Naples or call us at (866) 364-0242.

Volkswagen of Naples Reports VW reveals the Beetle TDI Clean Diesel at the Chicago Auto Show

At this year’s Chicago Auto Show Volkswagen announced that a TDI Clean Diesel model of the 2013 Beetle that will be available this summer at Volkswagen of Naples.

The 2013 Beetle TDI is the first TDI Clean Diesel Beetle we’ve offered since 2006, but we think you’ll agree that it was worth the wait. It’s the most fuel-efficient Beetle yet, with a predicted fuel economy of 29 mpg city and 39 mpg highway. Besides its excellent efficiency, what sets this model apart is what’s under the hood.

The Beetle TDI makes the most of Volkswagen’s innovative 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection Clean Diesel engine, which puts out 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. That’s great news for your right foot, because all that extra torque equals substantially more responsive driving.

We don’t use the term “Clean Diesel” lightly. Like our other TDI models, the Beetle TDI features an exhaust system with a particulate filter and no less than three catalytic converters: one for oxidation, one for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and one for hydrogen sulfide. For those of you who aren’t chemistry a major, that means that engine emissions are reduced. For that, we can all breathe easier.

The Beetle TDI will be available in three trim levels, including a TDI with Sunroof and a TDI with Sunroof, Sound, and Navigation. All three levels are very nicely equipped, with standard features like power windows with one-touch up/down; cruise control; V-Tex Leatherette seating; the Kaeferfach secondary glove box; Bluetooth®; a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with audio controls; three auxiliary gauges; Keyless entry with push-button start; and a Media Device Interface with iPod® cable.

For more information and availability of the (Think) Blue Volkswagen TDI Clean Diesel Beetle, please contact Volkswagen of Naples at 866-364-0242, or visit their dealership in Naples Florida.

My car buying experience at Volkswagen of Naples was great!

Volkswagen of Naples would like to share a recent very Satisfied Customer Review posted to Dealerrater.com

Like some other reviewers I started at VW of Fort Myers since I live nearby. I did not feel comfortable with the sales staff or sales manager, and their selection was not as good as that of Naples VW. I spoke with Michael Pierne about a 2012 Gray CC over the phone, and drove down to the dealership a little while later. They had the CC washed and waiting right out front when I arrived. They were very helpful and knowledgeable, and did not pressure me in any way. The entire negotiating process was not painful at all.

When I finally got into my new CC they had already preset all of my radio stations the same as my previous car, and spent about 30 minutes showing me how to use everything. Michael connected my phone to the bluetooth, and walked me through all of the electronics. We set up a 1000 mile inspection so that I could ask any questions I may have, and they can look over everything to make
sure that there are no problems. They are obviously trying to address the Initial Quality surveys that they receive from the big companies like JD power because the initial quality is based on any problems you have when you first buy the car.

The service department seems great, I have not had an interaction with them yet but they provide loaner cars whenever you have service performed. They wash your car for you, and even perform service overnight if that is more convenient to your work schedule. Overall I think they are an excellent choice if you live anywhere in Southwest Florida and are looking to buy a car.

Volkswagen of Naples is proud to announce the 2012 Passat TDI SE comes in 1st place!

Check out Motor Trend’s recent comparison of the 2012 Passat TDI SE, now available at Volkswagen of Naples, to 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE.
Three sedans that will pump you up… by rarely going to the pump
The resurgence of the compact sedan — Elantra, Cruze, Focus, et al. — over the last few years is due in large part to the segment’s combination of growing dimensions and continued high fuel economy. These small four-doors offer the room of an older-generation midsize while still providing the fuel mileage of a present-day subcompact, and sometimes better. As a result, American families have been eating up these compacts at alarming rates. The Cruze, for instance, has surpassed the Malibu as Chevy’s best-selling car. But if a not-so-small small car is still too small, even new midsize sedans are showing glimmers of high-mileage hope. Take the previous test’s Camry LE, which sips gas at the miserly rate of 25 mpg city/35 mpg highway yet still offers an E-Class-size interior and trunk. Still not good enough? If your idea of the ultimate sedan is a tantalizing blend of dynamic performance, passenger volume, and, most important, fantabulous fuel economy,
the midsize hypermiler is it. Gathered here are three of the latest and greatest: the 37-mpg Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the 40-mpg Toyota Camry Hybrid, and the 34-mpg VW Passat TDI. To the pumps!
3RD PLACE: HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID
We first clicked said pumps at Hyundai’s proving ground in California City, out in the toasty Mojave Desert. Nearly 300 miles later, we were back at the proving ground to close our fuel logs. I wish I had better news for Hyundai, but its Sonata Hybrid, EPA-estimated to return 35 city/40 highway, mustered a disappointing 27.0 mpg observed, almost 10 mpg less than its hybrid foe from Toyota. What gives?
“Both the gas engine and electric motor really need to be wrung out to even keep up with the Camry and Passat,” judged Kong. “The poor electric motor, which serves as the six-speed auto’s torque converter, is overworked, and, as a consequence, the car really struggles under high-load conditions and overall integration is not smooth. If the electric motor were more powerful (it’s outpaced by the Camry Hybrid’s primary tractive motor by 101 hp), it might help.” Not only did the Sonata’s fuel economy suffer, so did its track performance, trailing the Camry to 60 by a monstrous 2.3 seconds–and Hyundai claims 6 horsepower more than Toyota with similar weight-to-power. Hyundai also touts its use of a conventional automatic and lighter lithium-polymer batteries, both of which are supposed to work better than their CVT and nickel-metal hydride/lithium-ion counterparts. But the net results say the opposite. Making things worse, we rated the Sonata’s steering too rubbery, the brakes too grabby, and the throttle too jerky.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Sonata Hybrid. The design differentiators, from the LED headlamp accents and unique LED taillamps to the wind-cutting 17-inch alloys and vibrant hybrid technology display, were all well-executed, giving the Hyundai a rich, techy appearance. And the soft leather-adorned interior and panoramic sunroof made the cabin a welcoming space. Ultimately, though, this Sonata’s last name means it needed to be much more competitive with the others, especially the Camry.
2ND PLACE: TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID XLE
Our collective pick was not the Camry, but not because we weren’t immensely impressed. This new topline XLE, returning a slightly worse 40 mpg combined compared with 41 from the marginally lighter LE, treats feathery-footed drivers to better fuel economy than both the Sonata Hybrid and Ford Fusion Hybrid. Better yet, for heavy-footed pilots, the Camry XLE can still deliver in the neighborhood of 37 mpg (we saw 36.9 observed), not to mention surprisingly  brisk acceleration times. How brisk? With its new 2.5-liter 156-hp I-4 and 141-hp electric motor, the XLE whirred from 0 to 60 in just 7.2 seconds, only 0.2 behind the 274-hp Sonata 2.0T.
Perhaps more impressive than its quickness, the Camry is a model of seamless operation. Save for the slightest of vibrations from its engine start/stop system, the Camry keeps its hybridness a secret; the regenerative brakes are progressive, the throttle response linear, and the steering light and direct. Compared with the developmental-league Hyundai, the Toyota plays in the pros. If you didn’t know it was a hybrid, the Camry would lead you to believe it was a deftly executed gas-only sedan with some extra pop under the hood.
What kept the Camry from taking the gold was a driving experience less satisfying and memorable than the Passat’s and an interior that, while ergonomically sound and of high quality, came across too overwrought, what with big steering wheel-mounted controls and extra-large buttons and knobs decorating the center stack. Otherwise, this new hybrid is arguably the best Camry ever.
1ST PLACE: VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT TDI SE
Two noteworthy factoids about our twin-clutch-equipped Passat TDI: One, with an 18.5-gallon fuel tank and a highway rating of 40 mpg, its cruising range is an interstate-friendly 740 miles. (For manual enthusiasts, the TDI can be equipped with a six-speed stick, which, thanks to 43-mpg highway, bumps range to 796.) Compare that stretch with the Camry’s 646 and the Sonata’s 688, and you can see why the TDI is our open-road champion. Two, minus any of the hybrids’ space-robbing batteries, the TDI retains its huge 15.9 cubic feet of trunk space — 2.8 more than Camry and 5.2 more than the Sonata.
Of course, there’s so much more to love with the TDI. “The 2.0-liter diesel is the perfect engine for the new Passat. It’s got the low-end torque and the power density suitable to propel the car
for 99 percent of midsize buyer’s needs,” said Kong. And by low-end torque, we’re talking 236 lb-ft at a basement 1500 rpm, enough oomph to shove the TDI from 0 to 60 in 8.7 seconds. That time is noticeably slower than the Camry’s, but the TDI doesn’t feel noticeably slower under normal driving conditions, thanks in part to the speedy twin-clutch DSG that snaps off shifts in mere milliseconds, always riding on top of that wave of torque. When the road goes all serpentine, the TDI morphs into a big mongoose, its best-in-test 0.80 g lateral accel and 124-foot 60-0 braking distance working harmoniously with the first-rate steering and taut, lively suspension to deliver a rewarding, responsive drive that can’t be matched in this group.
Forced to find faults, we could only come up with the lack of an iPod/USB interface. This Passat is that well-rounded and that well-executed. Which is why the TDI is the hottest hypermiler available today.

Volkswagen of Naples announces pricing for the new 2012 Golf R

With 256 horsepower, the Golf R, available soon at Volkswagen of Naples, is the most powerful VW sports performance vehicle ever sold in the U.S.  and is now available in two- and
four-doors.

  • Well-equipped two-door model starts at $33,999
  • Sunroof and Navigation models have MSRPs of $35,490 (two-door) and $36,090 (four-door)
  • Most powerful Golf production engine to be sold in the U.S.
  • Six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive standard
  • Predicted fuel economy of 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway
  • Bi-Xenon headlights and LED DRLs standard on all models
  • On-sale early 2012 as a 2012 model, in both two- and four-door versions

Intelligent downsizing. That’s what the new Golf R represents. The heir to the 2004 and 2008 Golf R32 models, the new R manages to have more power, more performance, and consume less gasoline than its illustrious iconic performance forebears. And it offers all this for just $33,990, plus destination, for the two-door Golf R model.

Whereas the R32 models used 3.2-liter VR6 engines, the new Golf R is fitted with a high-output version of the award-winning turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI® engine. This engine makes 256 horsepower, six more than the VR6 fitted into the 2008 R32. As well as offering more power and performance, the Golf R is also more economical, with manufacturer estimated fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway compared with EPA estimated mileage of 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway for the prior model.

Like the previous R32 models, the Golf R is equipped with Volkswagen’s 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system: the latest generation of this system can divert up to 100 percent of the torque to the rear wheels, if needed. All Golf R models sold in the U.S will be equipped with a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. For the first time, the Golf R will be available in two- and four-door guisesas well as in two trim levels: well-equipped Golf R and luxurious Golf R with Sunroof and Navigation.

Exterior

The Golf R is a refined vehicle that’s marked by clean, minimalist lines that are mixed with sharp, intricate detailing. The style is sleek and contemporary, yet timeless and elegant. The car’s
streamlined profile continues toward the rear, with a pair of subtly flared side skirts running along the lower edge of the body. The new 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels expose gloss-black-painted brake calipers that incorporate the “R” logo; the exterior mirrors also have a gloss-black finish.

There’s further differentiation at the back of the R, where a new rear bumper was needed to accommodate the central twin pipes for the exhaust system, similar to the tailpipes fitted on the original 2004 R32. The bumper also features a gloss-black diffuser. The back end is highlighted by a slightly larger tail spoiler than that of the GTI and a subtle “R” badge. The R is available in five
colors: Rising Blue, Candy White, Carbon Steel Gray, Black, and Tornado Red.

Interior

Just like the exterior, the interior has been enhanced to make it even more purposeful and demonstrate its role at the apex of the Golf range. On opening the door, the driver and passenger will note aluminum “R” kickplates on the sills, before sliding into deep bucket seats. These are adorned with an “R” logo on the head restraint and are upholstered in supple leather. The squared-off steering wheel is also swathed in leather, with gloss-black-finished spokes that carry through from the exterior design. Other R-specific features include: blue pointers for the instruments; the shifter knob with an “R” motif; aluminum trim for the dashboard and doors; and aluminum pedals. The Golf R comes extremely well equipped, even in base form. Fully automatic dual-zone climate control is standard, along with a multifunction steering wheel, Premium VIII audio with eight speakers, aux-in, a Media Device Interface with iPod® connectivity, and Bluetooth®. The Golf R with Sunroof and Navigation adds the RNS 315 touchscreen navigation system; a 300-watt Dynaudio® sound system; a sunroof; and Keyless Entry with push-button start.

Engine and Transmission

The Golf R is fitted with the most powerful Golf production engine ever seen in the U.S.The car uses an updated version of the EA113 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, rather than the EA888 engine used in the current GTI. Like the EA888, the EA113 uses direct fuel injection and double overhead camshafts with variable intake timing. Because the Golf R develops more power and torque than the GTI—256 horsepower and 243 lb-ft compared with 200 hp and 207 lb-ft—a number of changes have been made. The cylinder block is reinforced, stronger connecting rods are fitted, and a BorgWarner K04 turbocharger is used, boosting at up to 17 psi. With manufacturer estimated fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, this is the most fuel-efficient Golf R model ever sold in the U.S.

The Golf R is offered with a slick shifting, close-ratio six-speed manual transmission that features a magnesium selector housing and cable operation with very short lever movements. The latest-generation 4Motion all-wheel drive is also standard on the Golf R. This system uses a Haldex® clutch pack that continuously varies the amount of torque sent to the rear wheels, depending on whether slippage is at the front. In normal driving, the Golf R acts like a front-wheel-drive machine, which has benefits for fuel economy. However, if needed, up to 100 percent of the torque can be directed to the rear wheels for traction on more challenging surfaces.

Safety and Security

The 2012 Golf R comes with an array of standard safety features. For driving security, enhancements include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), and an Electronic Differential Lock (EDL). A hill holder function automatically applies the parking brake when the vehicle comes to rest and the is depressed in traffic, preventing the car from rolling backwards or
forwards. The brake is released once the driver presses the accelerator pedal. This is especially useful in slow traffic on long inclines.

Should the car be involved in a crash, the occupants are protected by driver and passenger front and front side thorax airbags together with Side Curtain Protection® head airbags for front and rear passengers. Volkswagen’s advanced Intelligent Crash Response System shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and even switches on the hazard lights if the car is involved in certain types
of collisions.

Like all 2012 Volkswagen models, the Golf R is covered under the no-charge Carefree Maintenance Program. All scheduled maintenance is covered for the length of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty—three years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
