The long-awaited Beetle #PinkBeetle has arrived!
Just in time for October and its recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Beetle #PinkBeetle landed on our lot in all its Fresh Fuchsia Metallic glory. It dons a black soft top, 18″ aluminum and black wheels, and a pink plaid interior with pink trim throughout.
Here at the dealership, we like getting involved with the community and saw a perfect opportunity in our Beetle #PinkBeetle. We have partnered with the American Cancer Society in their “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign to raise awareness about the disease throughout October. The side of the car is now adorned with the campaign, in which we will donate $50 to the cause for every photo taken of the Beetle #PinkBeetle posted and tagged #VWofNaples on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
The Beetle #PinkBeetle has started its adventure from our dealership. To start, it traveled to the Bayfront Plaza in Naples to stay a few days at Shane’s Cabana Bar. Next, it rolled up to Fort Myers for B103.9’s Racks & Reels Fishing Tournament kickoff night and competition day.

Starting in 2010, Volkswagen announced plans to introduce their new “R” performance lineup of vehicles – sportier, more performance oriented versions of current models. VW aimed to make the changes more than cosmetic, planning for more engine upgrades and performance.
Currently, available “R” models are the Golf R, Beetle R-Line, CC R-Line, and the newly released Passat R-Line. The Tiguan R-Line has since been fizzled out.
The Passat R-Line was released in conjunction with the Passat’s facelift for 2016. It features several options that differ from the regular Passat that will be mentioned.
For this feature, we took our first Reef Blue Passat R-Line down to the waters edge for some cool photos!
The 2017 R-Line comes with the sedan’s standard 1.8L 4-cylinder TSI engine and 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and Sport mode, pushing out around 170-hp and mid-20 range MPG estimates.
Cosmetically, the R-Line was designed to stand out and be aggressive, but while still maintaining its midsize sedan qualities. The main differences between the 2017 R-Line and regular 2017 Passat are as follows:
- 19-inch Salvador wheels (compared to the entry level model’s 16-inch Carolina wheels)
- R-Line door sill protectors
- front/rear bumper design enhancements
- Unique rocker panels
- Chromed oval exhaust tip
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel/shifter/brake handle
The 2017 R-Line also comes standard with heated seats, a blind spot monitor, a rearview camera, VW Car-Net, dual climate control, multifunction steering wheel, and leather seating.
As part of a national Volkswagen campaign, here at Volkswagen of Naples, we will soon be conducting the fun and educational program called Dare-To-Compare. The program is designed to slot the 2017 Passat R-Line against two others in its class – the 2017 Honda Accord and 2017 Toyota Camry – comparing the features of each car and educating customers on the new Passat R-Line.
The program will be held here at VW of Naples, from October 18th-October 22nd, 2016. The three cars will be parked out front and employees will be there to assist customers in comparing the three vehicles.
We are excited to bring out customers this program to educate and feature the new 2017 Passat R-Line. More information and specific details will be released as the dates get closer!

Edgy. Flare. Attitude. Tough. Perhaps the most unique Beetle design to date, Volkswagen graced 2016 with a modern street going dune buggy: quite literally, the Beetle Dune.
Built for those who want a hard edge Beetle, the making of the Dune was supposedly inspired by the swarming of the Baja bugs in California deserts during the late 60s.
Most of the Dune is established in cosmetic upgrades, so it’s best that you don’t try to run it in the next desert Baja race. However, it does feature an upgraded and raised suspension -about .4 inches- to add to the dune buggy look.
Cosmetically, the Dune features exclusive black bumpers and air intakes, large rear spoiler, Dune striping, black lower trim that commemorates old buggy running boards, airbrushed silver inserts, black wheel well trim, black and silver mirrors, fog lights, and LED taillights. The car is available in three colors: Pure White, Deep Black Pearl, and a unique Sandstorm Yellow.
Inside is just as unique. Exclusive cloth and leatherette seating surfaces are a two-tone Dune gray/black with Yellow contrast stitching and piping throughout. Standard tech in the Dune features a 6.3-inch Composition Color touch screen, MIB II infotainment system, backup camera, and Park Distance Control. A special Dune badge sits at the bottom of the steering wheel, and ours was fitted with a Dune Technology Package that included a sunroof, climate control, keyless entry with push button start, and premium Fender sound system. A Lightning Package is also available (ours was equipped with such) that includes Bi-Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED rear license plate light.
Powered by a 1.8L TSI DOHC 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, the Dune certainly has a bit of pep producing 170 horsepower, but unfortunately lacks all-wheel drive. An automatic trans with Sport and manual modes in the only option available.

Volkswagen’s newest special edition sports the look of everyone’s favorite pair of jeans and pays homage to the classic Beetles of the past with vintage modern flare.
Meet the new Beetle Denim Convertible.
Offered in either Stonewashed Blue or Pure white, each Beetle Denim Edition comes with a Denim Blue Convertible top and Denim Blue interior. Adding to its charm, the jean-styled seats don jean pocket stitching patterns and the familiar colored dash reflects jean threads in a smooth and silky combination of blues dubbed “Blue Optic”.
Each one comes standard with a 1.8 TSI 4-cylinder engine that produces 170hp and good gas mileage. Also: a rear spoiler, power soft top, 17″ Heritage wheels, heated front seats, Bluetooth, USB port, center color touchscreen, multifunction sport steering wheel, two-tone interior, front sport seats, customizable interior ambient lighting, power heated mirrors, and Blue Optic dash, among other technical things.

Where do you go to see the biggest horse gathering in town? Why, the 12th Annual Cars On 5th presented by the Naples Chapter of the Ferrari Club of America, of course.
By 8am Saturday morning, 5th Avenue South was lined with more horsepower than you’ve ever seen in one block.
The annual show is the biggest Naples has to offer where you can go to see some of the rarest cars and biggest gatherings of one car brand. Supercars dominate the show with classics, imports, domestics, and the occasional bike sprinkled in. And puppies. Puppies everywhere.
We were setup with our partners Audi Naples showing off our beloved Classic Beetle and 1963 Double Cab, a new 2016 Silk Blue Metallic Beetle Convertible, a new 2016 VW Golf GTI manual, and a new 2016 Touareg- all of which you can come see in our showroom!
There were too many Ferraris, Porsche’s, and Corvettes to count, but several stood out; like this Slant Nose Porsche below, a Porsche 918 Spyder, a green Ferrari 458, a gorgeous white Ferrari Testarossa, a new Ferrari 488, 2 Porsche GT3’s and a GT3RS, several model year C1 Corvettes, and a rare Ferrari 512i BB. While these three brands dominated, Lamborghini was represented well with the showing of a rare 1967 350GT, a new Aventador Super Veloce, a Diablo, a Murcielago, a 50th Anniversario Aventador, and a few others. It’s impossible to point out every sweet car there, but a Koenigsegg CCX, Alfa Romeo 4C & 8C, several Ford GT’s, a 1974 BMW 2002 Factory Turbo, a Mercedes Benz 300SLR, a Noble M400 race car, and a Porsche Carrera GT are some worth mentioning. And we can’t forget the familiar faces of a widebody bagged Challenger and a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth Edition.
Vendors from around town and even farther out were set-up showcasing cars including Naples Motorsports, NUR Performance, Lamborghini Sarasota, Naples Luxury Imports, and Black Horse Motors.
As always the show was a hit, drawing in thousands of people, and dare I say, even more were in attendance this year than last! Needless to say, we are already looking forward to next year!
Volkswagen has given the 2016 Passat both an external and internal face-lift just in time for the holiday sales season. They have also added the sought after R-Line trim level to the Passat lineup for the upcoming year. Volkswagen definitely has stepped up their mid-size sedan game by not only restyling the exterior, but by also adding a fistful of new features inside.
One can easily notice the difference between the 2015 and 2016 Passat. VW added more horizontally aggressive lines in the front end, front fenders, hood, rear, and trunklid. Although the new look is still reminiscent of older, more reserved European styling, it adds some desired flare to this family hauler. New options such as LED taillights and headlights are being offered, which is a first among Volkswagen’s sedans. The R-Line will also offer unique rocker panels, a 2016 Jetta GLI inspired black accented front bumper, rear diffuser piece, and 19″ wheels.
Moving inside, the look has changed slightly to become more modern and hip. Cloth and leatherette surfaces are still both offered, accompanied by aluminum styled inlays. But the biggest changes are technological. Volkswagen’s Modular Infotainment System (MIB II) system and Car-Net connectivity systems -Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink- now grace the 2016 Passat (they have also been added to others such as the Tiguan). Touchscreens are now standard, but offered in two sizes depending upon packages. The screens also feature a new proximity sensor that bring up controls as your hand gets close to the screen. Backup cameras now also come in all trim levels, including the base Passat S (whoohoo!).
If you thought the Passat was loaded with safety features before, get ready to have your socks knocked off. With the refresh comes a bunch of new, advanced, and sought after safety options that are generally offered in more luxurious vehicles (like Acura or Audi).
Some of the new features include:
- Automatic Post-Collision Braking, which prevents the car from running away and crashing into things after an initial impact (standard on all trim levels)
- rearview camera (standard on all trim levels)
- adaptive cruise control
- a forward-collision warning system
- autonomous emergency braking
- blind spot monitor with alerts
- lane departure warning
- parking steering assistance
Are your socks knocked off yet? If not, then here’s a little tidbit of information: the 2016 Passat just earned the Top Safety Pick+ Rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), having been given the highest possible ratings of “good” in the institute’s crash tests. “The Passat’s IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award demonstrates Volkswagen’s longstanding commitment to vehicle safety and the development of innovative technologies,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc.
The Passat brings with it the same engine choices from the 2015 model:
- A 1.8 TSI turbocharged four-cylinder
- A 3.6L VR6
- A 2.0L TDI four-cylinder
In terms of gas mileage, Volkswagen has said that the base 1.8L will get around 38mpg on the highway. Less stopping and more driving. And let me tell you this, that little 1.8L is no slow slug.
All of the 2015 Passat color choices (both inside and out) carry over with the exception of a newly named Reef Blue Metallic, which replaces Night Blue Metallic.
Prices for the 2016 Passat start at exactly what the 2015 Passat was, but with this new model, I would say you definitely get more bang for your buck.
Interested? We’ve already had a bunch of these hit our VW of Naples lot, so come check one out today!
