New Kid On The Block // Volkswagen Passat R-Line

img_7599Starting in 2010, Volkswagen announced plans to introduce their new “R” performance lineup of vehicles – sportier, more performance oriented versions of current models. VW aimed to make the changes more than cosmetic, planning for more engine upgrades and performance.

Currently, available “R” models are the Golf R, Beetle R-Line, CC R-Line, and the newly released Passat R-Line. The Tiguan R-Line has since been fizzled out.

The Passat R-Line was released in conjunction with the Passat’s facelift for 2016. It features several options that differ from the regular Passat that will be mentioned.

For this feature, we took our first Reef Blue Passat R-Line down to the waters edge for some cool photos!

The 2017 R-Line comes with the sedan’s standard 1.8L 4-cylinder TSI engine and 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and Sport mode, pushing out around 170-hp and mid-20 range MPG estimates.

Cosmetically, the R-Line was designed to stand out and be aggressive, but while still maintaining its midsize sedan qualities. The main differences between the 2017 R-Line and regular 2017 Passat are as follows:

  • 19-inch Salvador wheels (compared to the entry level model’s 16-inch Carolina wheels)
  • R-Line door sill protectors
  • front/rear bumper design enhancements
  • Unique rocker panels
  • Chromed oval exhaust tip
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel/shifter/brake handle

The 2017 R-Line also comes standard with heated seats, a blind spot monitor, a rearview camera, VW Car-Net, dual climate control, multifunction steering wheel, and leather seating.

As part of a national Volkswagen campaign, here at Volkswagen of Naples, we will soon be conducting the fun and educational program called Dare-To-Compare. The program is designed to slot the 2017 Passat R-Line against two others in its class – the 2017 Honda Accord and 2017 Toyota Camry – comparing the features of each car and educating customers on the new Passat R-Line.

The program will be held here at VW of Naples, from October 18th-October 22nd, 2016. The three cars will be parked out front and employees will be there to assist customers in comparing the three vehicles.

We are excited to bring out customers this program to educate and feature the new 2017 Passat R-Line. More information and specific details will be released as the dates get closer!

2016 Passat named Best Midsize Sedan by CARS.com

IMG_7545Volkswagen of America, Inc. is pleased to announce today that the new 2016 Volkswagen Passat has taken top honors in Cars.com’s Midsize Sedan Challenge. Put to the test against eight of the most popular 2016 models, the Passat won judges’ hearts with its spaciousness, safety, available VW Car-Net® App-Connect technology, and most of all, its fun-to-drive nature.

To make it into the 2016 Midsize Sedan Challenge, each vehicle had to have an automatic transmission, have an EPA estimate of at least 28 mpg combined and have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of less than $28,000. Vehicles were evaluated by a panel of expert judges and an Atlanta couple in the market for a new sedan on a 220-mile road course looking at overall ride, acceleration, handling, braking, features, cargo space, technology and more.

The tests resulted in the following ranking:

  1. 2016 Volkswagen Passat
  2. 2016 Kia Optima
  3. 2016 Chevrolet Malibu
  4. 2016 Hyundai Sonata
  5. 2016 Honda Accord
  6. 2016 Subaru Legacy
  7. 2016 Toyota Camry
  8. 2016 Mazda6
  9. 2016 Nissan Altima

“We are thrilled for the Passat to be named Best Midsize Sedan by Cars.com against such formidable competition,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, President & CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “The Passat offers the perfect combination of sophisticated styling, outstanding App-Connect technology, and the great driving dynamics that Volkswagen is known for, making it an outstanding consumer value.”

“The Passat came in first place with both our expert judges and in-market shoppers,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com’s editor-in-chief. “This midsize sedan is a refreshed version of the Passat that won Cars.com’s Best of 2012 award; it’s still tremendously roomy and for 2016 got a ton of tech upgrades like Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. In addition to the roominess, tech and safety, the standout feature of the Passat is its driving ability. Everyone who drove it unanimously agreed, the Passat is plain old fun to drive.”

The 2016 Volkswagen Passat is a midsize sedan designed for the American lifestyle and built in Volkswagen’s state-of-the-art factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee. For 2016, the Passat combines striking new interior and exterior design elements with a greater variety of available driver assistance, connectivity, and convenience features than ever before. Overall, the 2016 Passat features a winning combination of interior and exterior design, technology, available driver assistance systems, and a powerful and highly efficient base engine. The starting MSRP for the 2016 Volkswagen Passat is $22,440. The SE model tested by Cars.com has an MSRP of $26,280 and includes features such as VW Car-Net® App-Connect technology, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, heatable front seats, and a sunroof.

Complete Reconditioning at VW of Naples

Did you know that Volkswagen of Naples does full reconditioning? Our service and detail department can take on even the toughest of jobs, as showcased by this VW Passat Wagon:

_MG_2011

Before

When it came to us, it looked like it had been beaten up and left to rot somewhere. The headlights were so hazy they almost matched the paint color. The paint was faded and dull. There were dings, dents and mold everywhere! All of the wheels had curb rash, the interior was a mess, it had a funny smell to it. The list goes on and on..

After a little bit of time, some elbow grease, and a lot of experience and knowledge, we had it looking (and smelling!) like a whole different car!

_MG_3680

After!

We could rave on and on about the great work that our team did on this car, but in cases like this, it’s better that the pictures should do the talking. See for yourself, and if you have a car that needs a little love (VW or other), please reach out to us! We would be happy to get your vehicle looking like new again.

Driven by Devin: The new 2016 Passat

One of the most popular consumer sedans just got a horizontally refreshed design.IMG_6964

Volkswagen has given the 2016 Passat both an external and internal face-lift just in time for the holiday sales season. They have also added the sought after R-Line trim level to the Passat lineup for the upcoming year. Volkswagen definitely has stepped up their mid-size sedan game by not only restyling the exterior, but by also adding a fistful of new features inside.

IMG_6995

One can easily notice the difference between the 2015 and 2016 Passat. VW added more horizontally aggressive lines in the front end, front fenders, hood, rear, and trunklid. Although the new look is still reminiscent of older, more reserved European styling, it adds some desired flare to this family hauler. New options such as LED taillights and headlights are being offered, which is a first among Volkswagen’s sedans. The R-Line will also offer unique rocker panels, a 2016 Jetta GLI inspired black accented front bumper, rear diffuser piece, and 19″ wheels.

IMG_6955

IMG_7018

Moving inside, the look has changed slightly to become more modern and hip. Cloth and leatherette surfaces are still both offered, accompanied by aluminum styled inlays. But the biggest changes are technological. Volkswagen’s Modular Infotainment System (MIB II) system and Car-Net connectivity systems -Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink- now grace the 2016 Passat (they have also been added to others such as the Tiguan). Touchscreens are now standard, but offered in two sizes depending upon packages. The screens also feature a new proximity sensor that bring up controls as your hand gets close to the screen. Backup cameras now also come in all trim levels, including the base Passat S (whoohoo!).

IMG_7011

IMG_7006

If you thought the Passat was loaded with safety features before, get ready to have your socks knocked off. With the refresh comes a bunch of new, advanced, and sought after safety options that are generally offered in more luxurious vehicles (like Acura or Audi).

Some of the new features include:

  • Automatic Post-Collision Braking, which prevents the car from running away and crashing into things after an initial impact (standard on all trim levels)
  • rearview camera (standard on all trim levels)
  • adaptive cruise control
  • a forward-collision warning system
  • autonomous emergency braking
  • blind spot monitor with alerts
  • lane departure warning
  • parking steering assistance

Are your socks knocked off yet? If not, then here’s a little tidbit of information: the 2016 Passat just earned the Top Safety Pick+ Rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), having been given the highest possible ratings of “good” in the institute’s crash tests. “The Passat’s IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award demonstrates Volkswagen’s longstanding commitment to vehicle safety and the development of innovative technologies,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc.

IMG_6959

The Passat brings with it the same engine choices from the 2015 model:

  • A 1.8 TSI turbocharged four-cylinder
  • A 3.6L VR6
  • A 2.0L TDI four-cylinder

In terms of gas mileage, Volkswagen has said that the base 1.8L will get around 38mpg on the highway. Less stopping and more driving. And let me tell you this, that little 1.8L is no slow slug.

All of the 2015 Passat color choices (both inside and out) carry over with the exception of a newly named Reef Blue Metallic, which replaces Night Blue Metallic.

Prices for the 2016 Passat start at exactly what the 2015 Passat was, but with this new model, I would say you definitely get more bang for your buck.

Interested? We’ve already had a bunch of these hit our VW of Naples lot, so come check one out today!

Driven by Devin: 2015 Passat Limited Edition

The Volkswagen Passat, regardless of trim level, is a pleasant drive. It gets good gas mileage, handles well, drives smooth, is pretty spacious, and is Volkswagen’s family sedan. It features a 1.8L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that gets up and goes when needed. I drive one of these quaint sedans almost everyday between dealerships, and I must say they make for a quite comfortable daily driver. The current 2015 Passat is offered in several different trim levels; the S, SE, SE with sunroof and navigation, SEL Premium, and a new Limited Edition.

IMG_3643

A limited run, Volkswagen’s 2015 Limited Edition Passat replaces the Wolfsburg and offers a send-off to the current Passat model. A middle ground between the base Passat S and Passat SE, the Limited Edition is designated by a “Limited” badge and offers key upgrades from the S.

IMG_3636

Passat Limited Edition

Perhaps the biggest improvements are the rearview camera (which is uber helpful), the leatherette interior, power driver seat, and heated front seats.

The leatherette interior is a nice luxurious touch to the Limited Edition. A power driver seat is always a plus, as in some cars, I eagerly reach for those controls only to be disappointed by what is a manual seat (although I have owned my share of manually adjustable seat vehicles). And of course, these seats are heated too. Yes, we may live in Florida, but I personally freeze in the 40-degree weather. Since I haven’t lived anywhere but the Sunshine State, I am totally all-in for the warmers.

A rearview camera makes backing up so much easier. I have never personally owned a car with a rearview camera, and although I am a self-proclaimed expert “backer-upper” (yes I made that up, & I always back my car in wherever possible), the aid of a camera would be happily embraced. You cannot completely rely on the camera (please don’t Big Box store shoppers), but it helps for those tight spots, blind spots, and any other problem spots you encounter in reverse.

IMG_3595

The Passat LE also features an updated 8-speaker Premium VIII radio with a CD changer, SiriusXM(c) Satellite radio, Kessy(c) keyless entry, 17″ alloy wheels, a push button start, bright chrome exterior trim, and front fog lights.

IMG_3591

Surprisingly, the added features of the Limited Edition don’t actually cost you that much extra over the Passat S (which are getting hard to find). If I were in the market for a practical sedan, I would definitely consider the Limited Edition, mostly for that rearview camera.

Check out the shots below or come check it out in person! We have plenty Limited Edition Passats in several different color combinations to suite your tastes.

Volkswagen of Naples is Excited to Reveal the All-New Passat – A First-In-Class Vehicle That Delivers German Engineering and Is Built in America.

The larger, sophisticated Passat, available soon
at Volkswagen of Naples located in Naples Florida, offers best-in-class rear
legroom, remarkable fuel efficiency estimated at 43 mpg with a driving
experience only Volkswagen can deliver.

“We are very excited about the All-New Passat”
comments Brian Massoll, Managing Partner of Volkswagen of Naples, www.vwofnaples.com.  “The 2012 Passat will set new benchmarks for
safety, driving performance and environmental responsibility in our Volkswagen
midsize segment.”
Designed in Germany and made in America, the Passat was developed as a larger
vehicle with premium features and handling characteristics that will perfectly
match it with the tastes and lifestyles of Americans. It will be built in
Chattanooga, Tenn., at the world’s newest, most advanced and environmentally
responsible auto assembly plant.
The new Passat, the largest ever, is the only midsize sedan that offers
superior German engineering at an accessible price. The Passat TDI — the only
clean diesel option in the segment — is expected to deliver 43 miles per
gallon on the highway, with a range of approximately 800 miles.

The new Passat offers best-in-class legroom, Volkswagen’s Care Free Maintenance
program (3 years/36,000 miles) and the safety of Volkswagen’s Intelligent Crash
Response System.
Volkswagen’s new Chattanooga plant that will produce the Passat is part of a $4
billion investment by the company in the U.S. market. The environmentally
friendly facility includes a revolutionary paint shop that significantly reduces
emissions. A state-of-the-art $40 million employee training center ensures
adherence to Volkswagen’s exacting quality standards.

Engine and Transmission
The all-new Passat offers three drivetrain options: a responsive 2.5L gasoline
engine, a remarkably eco-friendly 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel and a powerful 3.6L
VR6.
The 2.5L five cylinder engine (170 hp/177 lb.-ft.), which is being offered in
the Passat for the first time, will be mated to a standard 5 speed manual
transmission. As an alternative, the 2.5 multi port injection engine may be
paired with a 6-speed automatic.
The quiet, four cylinder 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel (140 hp/236 lb.-ft.) has the
power of a six cylinder gasoline engine and the fuel economy of a hybrid. The
Passat TDI is expected to deliver 43 miles per gallon on the highway, with a
range of approximately 800 miles. Volkswagen’s TDI clean diesel engines, which
come with a NOx storage catalytic converter, are among the cleanest engines in
the world, fulfilling emissions requirements in all 50 states. Optional on the
Passat TDI will be Volkswagen’s legendary 6-speed DSG transmission.
The 3.6 liter VR6 (280 hp/258 lb.-ft.) makes the new Passat a top-flight sport
sedan. It offers power and luxury-class driving comfort, with European-type
restraint in its fuel consumption — estimated at 28 mpg on the highway.
Gear shifting on the new Passat VR6 is handled by a standard 6-speed DSG; the
dual-clutch transmission is considered the most efficient automatic in the
world. This technologically advanced six-speed transmission incorporates an
automatic dual-clutch system that instantly engages and disengages gears
without the need for a clutch pedal. With a special computer controlling the
process, one clutch is engaged on the next gear while the clutch from the
previous gear is released. The results are crisp, quick shifts, without the
loss of power that is experienced with a traditional manual gearbox.

Premium Features
The Passat will be offered in three trim levels, S, SE and SEL, with a total of
16 equipment levels. All will offer first-in-class safety and comfort.
The Passat’s safety features include Volkswagen’s advanced Intelligent Crash
Response Systems, which initiates automatic safety protections in a collision
— the fuel supply and high consumption electronic equipment shuts off; the
doors unlock; the battery terminal disconnects from the alternator cable; the
hazard lights switch on.
The Passat also comes with a tire pressure monitoring system, ESP electronic
stabilization program, ABS with braking assistant, Hill Climb Assist (with
manual transmission), six airbags and an extremely rigid body structure to
protect the driver and passengers.
The Passat sets new standards for comfort, with a significantly larger rear
seating area, best-in-class rear seat legroom, well-designed controls and
superior touring properties.
Other standard features include automatic climate control, power windows all
around, air conditioning, insulating glass, a distinctive analog clock at the
center of the instrument panel, cruise control, outside temperature display
with frost warning, radio-CD system (MP3-capable, plus external audio input) and
Bluetooth connectivity.
Premium options include 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, power seat adjustment,
leather, leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel, a touchscreen satellite
radio, a choice of Volkswagen’s RNS 510 or RNS 315 navigation systems, front
fog lights with static cornering lights, wood decor, new ambiance lighting,
memory driver’s seat, power passenger seat, and keyless access with push button
start.
The Passat will also offer the new Fender premium audio system, designed
exclusively for Volkswagen. In a partnership that combined quality automotive
engineering and quality sound engineering, Volkswagen and Fender teamed up to
bring the raw emotion of live music to the driving experience.

Exterior
The Passat’s balanced proportions give it a unique, timeless and dominant
styling reflecting the “design DNA” developed by Walter de Silva, the
Italian design chief for the Volkswagen Group, and Klaus Bischoff, the German
design leader for the Volkswagen Brand. The signature clean design, with a
predominance of horizontal body elements, reinforces the Passat’s position as
the sophisticated choice in the midsize segment. The bottom line: this car
looks much more expensive than it actually is.
The key identifying feature of a strong brand is the styling of its front end.
Here the Passat displays the new horizontal brand face, with the grille and
headlights forming a single unit. Unlike models in the compact class, the
Passat’s grille is sculpted in a three-dimensional shape. Moreover, the grille stands
more upright and makes a more distinctive and elegant impression in its
stricter geometry.
From the side profile, the muscular ridge in the sill area creates a lively
interplay of light reflections. Powerfully sculpted wheel arches emphasize the
dynamic properties of the Passat. In the balance of the side profile, the roof
lines flow toward the back with a nearly coupe-like cut of the rear window.
Three side windows create luxury class style with a long, extended glass
surface.
The rear section is also dominated by horizontal lines. The lines of the large
taillights rise toward the sides, underscoring the dynamics of the elegant rear
styling. Another unique feature here is the design of the two-part taillights
(integrated in the rear fender and trunk lid).

Interior
The Passat shows the look of considerably more expensive cars. The new, larger
Passat is 191.7 inches long and has a 110.4 inch wheelbase, which translates
into a noticeable increase in rear seating space.
Like the exterior, the interior is also marked by a clean and geometric formal
structure. Interior styling consistently follows the maxims of functionality.
Controls are attractive and easy to operate.
The instrument panel is similar to that of Volkswagen’s flagship vehicle, the
all-new Touareg. Chrome trimmed gauges surround a digital multifunction
display. A high-end chrome look is also applied to the air vents in the
cockpit, and to the surrounds of the radio, navigation system and the climate
control panels. The rotary light switch and parking brake handle button are
also treated in chrome. Except for the base version, all other Passat trims
have chrome interior accents on the window, mirror adjustment and trunk opening
switches.
The upper and lower instrument areas are visually distinguished by various
decorative accents, depending on the equipment version. Decorative elements in
“Titan” design are used in the S version; the elegant “Titan
Silver Printed” decor is used in the SE version, wood decor “Autumn Nut
Burl” is featured in the exclusive SEL version. The accents not only
upgrade the instruments, but also the center console as well as the door trim
panels.
The seats are exceptionally comfortable. Even in the base version, the driver’s
seat is adjustable eight ways, including lumbar support.
The new Passat and the all-new Jetta are expected to be the sales leaders in
Volkswagen’s plan to significantly increase market share in the United States.
The company’s strategy is built on a broad portfolio of products that offers
cars accessible to the majority as well as vehicles for car enthusiasts.

Final pricing will be announced in the spring, but
the Passat will start at around $20,000 when it arrives in Volkswagen of Naples’
showroom, www.vwofnaples.com,  later this year. It will come with premium
standard features that include automatic climate control and Bluetooth
connectivity.
